I also thought I was past the point where I would instinctually yell for my daddy to rescue me.
Turns out I'm not.

Thought I was past the point where I would scream like a girl when I almost put my hand on a spider.

Is it wrong for me to tell a student: “you break my book, I break your face”?
Yes, yes, I know it’s wrong; however, the thought may have crossed my mind…frequently. Because I’m going to go deeper into book care with my students this year, I’m still looking for resources. Here are two new ones: http://www.wikihow.com/Care-for-a-Library-Book http://www.loc.gov/preservation/care/books.html Here is the link to my previous post on book care: http://www.heardtodayatschool.com/home/heard-today-at-school1983389 #RandomWriting I had just finished watching an episode of Criminal Minds when I had a moment of paralyzing fear. It upset me so much that I started crying.
My hands were full and I started to walk by the bathroom. At that exact instant the doorknob rattled and the door creaked opened. Now- I know that the only other people in the house are behind me. I froze. I could feel the scream building when the DOG walked out of the bathroom. #RandomWriting #IFeltLikeAnIdiot Nothing makes you reevaluate the need to use the bathroom more than a spider in said bathroom.
What about you? #RandomWriting So I follow this person on Pinterest called ‘Writer’s Relief’ and the pinned something that said : “write about what sunshine tastes like”. Hmm ok.
This is what came to mind: – He took a shortcut through the park. It had been a horrible night at work. The ER, where he spent his time, had been swamped. In fact, he was now in his third set of scrubs for the night. He desperately needed a shower too, but that would have to wait. He had to get to his favorite bench in the park to see the sunrise. That last patient almost made him miss it. The park near his apartment had the perfect view to see the sunrise every morning-if you made it in time. His favorite bench faced the eastern skyline. The trees that were scattered thoughout the park were old and tall enough that the sun could sneak out entirely before it was obscured by verdant leaves. He slid into ‘his’ spot just in time to see the sky splashed with the pinks and reds of early morning. A smile slowly grew across his face. Perfect. He closed his eyes, emptied his mind, and took a slow deep breath. Yum. No one ever believed him when he said the sunrise tasted like warm, raw honey. Or that a sunset tasted like warm, gooey caramel. But he swore it did. Truthfully, it was why he asked to be scheduled for the night shift so often. Why wouldn’t he want to end his work day with the taste of warm honey dripping down his throat? – So, what do you think sunshine tastes like? By the way, I also envisioned another ending to this story (one where he takes off his shoes, digs his toes in the dirt, and actually becomes a plant during the day- but I couldn’t come up with what the sun tastes like to a plant (other than sugar, of course #TheMagicSchoolBus)… so I didn’t go there). Mine: wriggle, scarlet, appreciate, throb, and how. Because I like the way these words feel, but I reserve the right to change my mind. #RandomWriting |
